Enjoy a Special SACHI Afternoon with Cantor Arts Center Curator Padma Maitland over Tea and Conversation

Dr. Padma D. Maitland will be pleased to share some of his recent research projects on Modern Indian Buddhist art and architecture. In discussing India’s modern Buddhist landscape, Padma Maitland will explore the constellation of new Buddhist sites constructed in India since the 1930s. These include modern vihars in New Delhi and Varanasi, a memorial to the traveler Xuanzang in Nalanda, and the recent construction of Dalit monuments in Nagpur, Mumbai, and Lucknow.

Padma D. Maitland is the recently appointed Patrick J. J. Maveety Assistant Curator of Asian Art at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University. His research focuses on transnational Buddhist networks and their impact on modern art, architecture, and literature in Europe, the United Staes, and Asia.
