The contemporary Indian artist is not only drawn to the nation’s rich historical traditions of art, craft, and modernism, but their remarkable engagement with material allows them to interweave politics, culture, and religion into their work. Arshiya Lokhandwala, art-historian and curator, will unpack these complex, multi-layered artistic practices, discussing the works of contemporary artists such as Shilpa Gupta, Anita Dube, Subodh Gupta, Bharti Kher, Jitish Kallat, Mithu Sen, across various mediums including new media.
